The easiest way to install the wallpapers is to right-click (control-click) on the wallpaper and select 'Set Desktop Picture' from the context menu. Alternatively, you can open System Preferences, select Desktop and Screen Savers, and click '+' or drag the wallpaper in from the Downloads folder.
If this does not sync with time, try setting the default Mojave wallpaper in System Preferences first and ensuring it is on Dynamic. Then, try setting these wallpapers again. If you have the Mojave wallpaper set to Light or Dark, these wallpapers may also be limited to Light or Dark.
If you like these wallpapers, or aren't running the Mojave beta, buy 24 Hour Wallpaper from in the Mac App Store. The app has 42 wallpapers with 2X more frames each along with comprehensive configurability. It also works on macOS versions as old as 11.11 so most Mac models can run it. If you experience any issues with the wallpapers please contact us at [email protected].

Known Issues
#1 Stuck in Dark Mode/Stuck in Light Mode
The wallpaper may stay just Dark or just Light if the Mojave Default wallpaper is not set to Dynamic. The first time you set Dark Mode, macOS may set this to “Dark.” To resolve this take the following steps:
- Open System Preferences
- Open Desktop & Screen Saver, select Desktop
- Set the default Mojave Dynamic Desktop
- Select “Dynamic” in the combo box (dropdown)
- Set the downloaded desktop as wallpaper again
First, select the Mojave default wallpaper then select “Dynamic” in the dropdown.
This overrides macOS’s decision to make the desktop dark only.

#2 Dropdown in System Preferences/Desktop panel has scrambled text
In the Desktop & Screen Saver panel, the preview and thumbnail for the wallpapers will show as either the Solar Gradient wallpaper or the default Mojave wallpaper. The drop down next to the wallpaper will also be scrambled prior to beta 9. These are macOS bugs we have reported to Apple.
#3 Wallpaper is just not working!
If the wallpaper is not working, follow the instructions in #1 to set the default Mojave Wallpaper and then reset the downloaded wallpaper. Sometimes the Dynamic Desktop system just needs a bit of a “turn off and on.”
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the difference between these wallpapers and the 24 Hour Wallpaper app?
The 24 Hour Wallpaper app works on macOS versions back to El Capitan (11.11) and includes 58 wallpapers with 2X more frames per wallpaper. The wallpapers provided here only work with macOS Mojave and do not require the app. If you like these, we recommend you get the app which includes more scenes and a range of configuration options.
2. How did you do this?
The process for creating Dynamic Desktops was well documented by Marcin Czachurski (article on ITNEXT) and he posted a convenient command line tool for creating the files. From there we had to build a custom tool that mapped from our wallpaper format to Apple’s. The process is quite complex but in the app it’s just a checkbox.
3. Does 24 Hour Wallpaper support truly native Dynamic Desktops?
![Macbook Macbook](/uploads/1/2/5/7/125752386/754352131.jpg)
Yes, the app includes a Dynamic Desktop mode that sets actual Dynamic Desktop format wallpapers. This mode is optional because in general we find using the app’s own engine better. But for those who want true native Dynamic Desktops, simply enable the macOS Dynamic Desktop option in Settings.
4. Will 24 Hour Wallpaper allow you to create your own wallpapers?
We have been working for some time on an import/edit feature for 24 Hour Wallpaper that would allow you to create your own 24 Hour Wallpapers. Provided we see adequate demand for this feature and the app we hope to release this editor sometime within the next year. If you would like this feature to be added please leave a 5-star review for 24 Hour Wallpaper along with a note in your review that you look forward to being able to create your own.
5. I have another question, who can I talk to?
We are happy to answer any questions you might have. Please e-mail us at [email protected] with your questions and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
